Sallows Gallery has summer kids' programs to stave off boredom.
Every Tuesday & Thursday from now till the end of August, point kids complaining of boredom towards the Sallows Gallery, located on the mezzanine level of the Goderich Library. For 6-8 year olds, there are morning programs (10:30-12:00) and for 9-13 year olds, there are afternoon programs (1:00 - 2:30 pm) Each session is different - some explore the magic of magic, the science of photography, arts and more - all include unique crafts, activities and, most of all, fun. Cost is $5 per child. Pre-registration is encouraged. Call 524-9261 to pre-register, and ask to speak with Jen or Sarah.
Trains, Boats & Things with Wheels exhibit is attracting record numbers.
The new Reuben R. Sallows Gallery exhibit is attracting a wide variety of visitors, from small children who enjoy the gallery scavenger hunt & simple machines case, to adults who enjoy trains & vintage cars. The exhibit is open Tues to Sat, 10am to 5 pm, admission is by donation. Check the photographs, antiques and simple machines case and scavenger hunt. Hint: pick up the yellow program.
Reuben R. Sallows Gallery is hosting a Photo Contest.
Sallows Gallery has begun a photo contest called Then & Now. The Gallery has selected 20 photographs that Reuben R. Sallows took between 1880-1937 (they are in the 2010 calendar ($10), soon will be on the website and at the Gallery, along with contest rules & an entry form). Photographers are asked to take a "Now" picture based on one of the 20 selected Sallows photographs. It is up to the photographer to interpret the Sallows photo with their own photo - take an exact replica of a Sallows photo, but feature today's fashions & equipment, or take a photo based on the theme of the photo (ie. Courthouse Park) etc. All photos entered will be featured in the exhibit next summer, either on the wall or in photo books in the Gallery. The top 3 for each Sallows' theme photo will be on exhibit on the walls & on the web page of the Gallery. Over the summer, visitors will vote for their favourite three photos from all the photographs featured in the Gallery. The three photos with the most votes will receive a cash prize at the end of the exhibit. Deadline for submission of photographs is March 2010. Get out there, and get snapping.
