The Reuben R. Sallows Gallery is looking for people who know a little about a lot. They are holding their first trivia night on October 16 from 7 to 10 pm at the Maitland Golf and Country Club in Goderich. Already signed up is a team of four from Goderich's radio station, 104.9 - the Beach. They are challenging others to compete against them for the title of Sallows Trivia Champions.
This event involves tables of four working together to answer 100 questions in all matters of knowledge. The questions range from local history to pop culture, music, geography and all subjects in between. With four people working together on the same question, it is easier to come up with winning answers. People can put together a table of four by registering at the Goderich Library and/or the Reuben R. Sallows Gallery. Cost is $20 per person, with all proceeds going to support the development of the Gallery and its exhibits. The Sallows Gallery trivia expert has drawn up the 100 questions, which will be kept in total secrecy until October 16th. When the Trivia Night begins, the host for the evening, Kevin MacDonald, radio jockey extraordinaire from the Beach, will be given the questions one by one to read aloud to the competing teams. They will be given a limited time to decide upon their answer, write it down and pass it to the collection volunteers. After all answers are in, Kevin will read the answer a
nd move onto the next question. Tally volunteers will keep track of each table's score. At the end of the evening the scores will be tabulated and winners declared. Prizes include passes to the play of one's choice for the 2010 Blyth Festival lineup. It promises to be an evening of fun and laughter for all.
At present, the Sallows Gallery is looking for volunteers to help with the registration desk, collection duties and tabulating. Those interested in helping with this fun-spirited event can contact the Gallery by calling 519-524-9261 or emailing sallowsgallery@huroncounty.ca. This is a licensed event, requiring participants and volunteers to be over 19 years of age.
The projects currently underway at the Sallows Gallery include a new exhibit that went up the third week in September entitled Fat Cows Wanted. It is a photographic exploration of the livestock & barns of this area and beyond between 1890 and 1937. This exhibit includes a gallery scavenger hunt and gallery educational activities centred on the theme of pioneer farms for visitors, homeschoolers & school groups to enjoy.
Just a heads-up for those planning on competing, you might want to bone up on some Sallows Gallery facts. A little birdie whispered that Sallows may show up during the evening, but he didn't say if he might take the form of a ghost or one of the trivia questions.
